Meticulous cleanliness is a key prerequisite for producing high-quality foodstuffs. Plant and machinery must be kept clean at all times, of course, but food processors often overlook the floors in their production halls and warehouses. Over time, small cracks and fissures develop due to vibrations, temperature fluctuations and aggressive chemicals. Little stains grow in such cracks, stains that can quickly become the perfect environment for germs and bacteria which, sooner or later, are bound to have an impact on product quality.
The Erbil Bread and Baking Co. near Frankfurt wanted to avoid such problems right from the start. Therefore, the company decided to have Silikal flooring installed, 1,275 square meters of it, laid by professionals from a local company. After the floor had dried, two large bakery lines and the other production and packaging equipment were installed.
The management decision was made only after thoroughly analysing the company's needs, particularly with regards to flooring. Erbil delivers bread and baked goods, mostly Turkish flat-bread, to German and Turkish businesses throughout central Germany. When it came to evaluating the various conditions the floor would be subjected to, it was found that cement screeds, concrete and tiles laid in mortar often could not withstand the extreme loads and conditions and would show defects and signs of wear after only a very short time. A damaged floor is not only detrimental to hygiene, it can also bring production to a screeching halt. High repair costs are often the result and the danger of workplace accidents grows as well.
